The Roman Republic overcomes one challenge their pragmatism right they expand the benefits of citizenship to for example families in Italy that were not themselves Roman and later even to Gallic peoples and the Sisalping Gaul. By doing this Rome relieves some of the tension of inequality and distributes its political power to its subjects. The solution creates its own problem which manifests sort of down the line the attempt to absorb so many different peoples with their own traditions and beliefs might not always result  in successful assimilation.
