Desire and Drive
The difference between desire and drive is very subtle. Drive is just the recognition of o lack as inevitable, and desire is the belief in the possibility that it could be fulfilled. The notion of a soul mate is desiring this figure of the soul mate, and looking for that in any kind of persond. When you think you find it, when you don't, all the ways in which the person comes up short, and you continue to desire. That's rally hopeful.
