The Wabash Land Company - A Map of the Indians

The map was probably made for the Wabash land company, which had been set up by British settlers to buy land from Piancichois Indians around 1775. The words on the map suggest that this is a record of a deal that's already done and dusted, but in fact this deal was never ratified by the British colonial authorities. It doesn't show accurately the physical distances on the ground, but rather their relative positions. Tellingly, although the map shows all the rivers, it shows almost exclusively the settlements of the Indians. Virtually none of the European settlements are here.
