The Collagen Fingerprint of Hominidae
The bones from Denisiva Cave are broken up into tiny bone fragments that you can't actually identify to species. But they often have very high levels of DNA, ancient DNA that can be retrieved and sequenced. And so we came up with an idea of using a method of identification of bone protein sequences which we could then use to identify the bones to species or genus level. The first time we've ever found a first generation hybrid person in archaeological in the world ever. It's shown how maybe how common it was for these different populations to meet one another and to interbreed.
