The Only Sacrifice That Will Remain in the New Covenant
The rabbis said that when the Messiah comes, the only sacrifice that will remain will be the sacrifice of thanksgiving. So Jesus had the Last Supper is showing the apostles how to offer the one sacrifice that's going to remain in the new age. After his resurrection, Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to the apostles to mediate that from that point forward.
