Blur are a British rock band consisting of Damon Alban, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rountree. Forming in the late 80s while studying in London the four began to write and perform under various names settling on blur after signing to food records Emerging at a musically fertile time bubbling over with exciting scenes from Manchester to shoegaze to grunge Blur reflected this on their debut album leisure in 1991 which reached number seven in the UK album charts. Their second album modern life is rubbish in 1993 saw them move closer to establishing their own musical identity inspired by British songwriters such as Ray Davies, Lennon and McCartney and Paul Weller.
