Giongo are words that sound like the sounds they are describing. So za za is a sound of falling rain and goro, goro is the sound of thunder. But kura kura, which means dizzy, is not really a sound. And this is called gitago, which refers to words that represent a condition or state, but not sounds. The thing to remember is you'll hear a lot of kitago and giongo in conversation in japanese so learn them both. They are similar in that they both have pairs of repeating sounds. For example, gorogoro, pikapica, toki toki and et cetera.
