Evolution by Natural Selection - Transitional Fossils

Darwin knew that one type of evidence that would really support his theories was in relatively short supply, and that is transitional fossils. These are fossils that have some traits belonging to an older species and some belonging to a more modern species. After darwin's publication on the origin of species, there was a big focus on finding more transitional fossils. In particular, people were hoping to find missing link, that single fossil that would conclusively demonstrate connection between ancient apes and modern humans. The idea of a single missing link has vanished under the weight of a lot of individual, transitional Fossils.
