The Role of Cooperation in Evolution
Martin Novak is a leading professor in mathematical biology at Harvard. He's been one of the pioneering researchers in the study of cooperation and evolution. In his work, he proposed five possible rules that govern cooperation. The first rule is kin selection. Individuals are more likely to cooperate with their close relatives because they share a significant portion of their genetic material. Direct reciprocity operates on the principle of tit for tat or i for an i where individuals remember past interactions and then respond accordingly.
