The Importance of Finding Functional Tick Comorbidities
It fits with many forms of FND that are states of abnormal focused attention. And this population that the functional tick-like behaviours were often dramatically worse during the neurological exam. depression and anxiety symptoms, self-harm behaviours and difficulties with social relationships were the most common comorbidities in this population compared to ADHD and OCD in our Tourette patients. But we also felt that the functional behavioural intervention and assessment were very important. We needed to understand what the antecedents and consequences of functional tick- like behaviours were for individual patients. This certainly was helpful in bringing about resolution.
