Israeli state uses security as an excuse to dispossess Palestinian landholders. Security is key rationalization for private property ownership that Jeremy Bentham gives us. There's quite a fragmented legal regime where at least from the perspective of lawyers in the west bank there's often been a focus on international law and the law of occupation. Suhaad Bhichara has written a brilliant PhD dissertation on the dispossession of Palestinians through land law That really reveals how that is a unified project so on the face of it we have different legal regimes but underlying that I think there's quite a unified use of land law emergency powers etc to to disposses Palestinians.
Featuring Brenna Bhandar on Colonial Lives of Property: Law, Land and Racial Regimes of Ownership. The centuries-long history of how dominant conceptions of private property were (and are) made alongside race and racial hierarchies in colonial encounters stretching from Ireland and British Columbia to Australia and Palestine.
