The Effect of the Debt Ceiling Agreement on the Economy
The debt ceiling agreement will have a modest negative effect on GDP growth. On the other hand, we just lifted a major uncertainty over the economy. I don't think it's big enough to substitute for a quarter point increase in the Fed's policy rate. This action fiscal policy helps a little bit, but it doesn't make that much difference.
