Agatha Christie wrote this story at least in the mid to late 40s. She was certainly still engaging in unfortunately, in some casual antisemitism around that time. The angel is described as shining quote with the radiance of the morning sun. It's only upon further considering these scenes that she's been shown that Mary realizes the deceptive nature of these scenes on their surface.
