The Impact of the McGarian Decree on Megara
Thucydides downplays the significance of the McGarian decree to a remarkable degree Saying almost nothing about it and instead put more emphasis on the conflicts of Rapatadia and Corsira in his analysis of the cause of the war. Most scholars though are in the camp that believed that the decree had significant economic impact on Megara. They argue that Sparta was deliberately exaggerating the importance of the decree to test the Athenians nerve and see how much they could exploit them.
