We're not going to solve the climate problem if we don't have a a price on carbon. As long as fossil fuel don't have to pay their cost to society, we'll keep using them. Their fossil fuels are remarkable. One gallon of petrol contains the energy equivalent of 400 hours of work by a healthy adult. And that's how our standard of living has increased over the last few centuries because of fossil fuels. We need Carbon-free electricity which is carbon free.
