Are the French Descended From the Franks?

Are the french descended from the franks? Or a to ask, in a way, how did the franks become french? And then there's a sort of linguistic question that is linked t it is, when did they, a, change from being germanic franks to ans french? So present day france and the french do both take their name from the frank. But as wehave seen, frankia itself would have been much bigger than the the present day fr France.
