In both cases, you should really have a goal, and yet sort of understand why are you building this product. An exact same thing for a book is, why do you want to write this book? What problem is it solving and a and what will success look like? I'd say that some of the the biggest difference though for me is that everything you do as a product manager, you get done through other people (like designers) Ah, and at the end of the day, ah, you're not the person who's sitting there typing the code.
