Frank Church was born in Boise Idaho in 1924 he was a really the son of a shopkeeper and the grandson of the chief a saver of Idaho in the old mining fields. As a young boy when he was still in middle school or junior high school he probably had a letter to the editor published in the in the Boise newspaper supporting and defending William Borah the senator from Idaho who at the time was one of the leading isolationists in the country. He then joined the army in World War II and became an intelligence officer in the army in China near the end of the war that had an important effect on his understanding of the world.
