The commercialization of the internet really cannot be divorced from the moment of globalization that follows the economic crash of 1970s. The Democrats have been really out of power for a long time in the US with the, you know, semi exception of Jimmy Carter. Clinton and Gore and other folks in this Democratic Leadership Council do is both bring in a new class of voters and activists. These are what are called the Atari Democrats, the name that they end up having.

Paris Marx is joined by Shoshana Wodinsky to discuss the unconvincing arguments being made for a TikTok ban in the United States, then by Daniel Greene to explore how the turn against Chinese technology signals a shift in US policy on the internet and technology.
