My dad was a chemist. He immigrated to this country when he was a young man and did his PhD at the University of Cincinnati in organic chemistry. His lived example was very much about what I call grit, passion and perseverance over very long time periods. The conversations had this implicit narrative that what you were looking for are those like rare geniuses who changed the world," she says.
What does it take to persevere and succeed, not just in our careers but in all aspects of our lives? For psychologist Angela Duckworth, the answer can be summed up in one concept: grit.
