The Inhumanity of Colonization in Africa
Slavery was low-hanging fruit of the African economy. King Leopold thought colonizing Africa would be a more civilized way of exploiting people than destroying or taking its strong men and women across the seas to slavery. He saw that only infrastructure and commerce could display slavery. The most prominent face of the abolitionist movement called for the immediate emancipation of all slaves.
