Give an Inch and Heal, Take a Mile
Inch is a unit of measurement found on a ruler or a tape measure. Give means to freely transfer the possession of something to someone. Take means to remove something from a place or to get something from someone. The origin, well, about 500 years ago in 1546 to give an inch and heal, take an L, was found in a collection of proverbs by John Haywood.
