The Origins of the Blues
Papa Charlie Jackson was advertised as the only man living who sings self-acompanyed for blues records. But contrary to the way these are seen today, at the time they weren't seen as being in some way authentic or folk music. They clearly learned the blues style from records and sheet music, rather than as part of an old tradition. Most of these performers were people who recorded blues as part of a wide range of material like Blind Blake.
