The New York Times had access and was in the halls of the FBI, often on for three months. So it's not often that a news organization gets that kind of window in cooperation, but the Times did. Jay Edgar Hoover famously had a whole correspondence unit with various journalists. He abused his shared friendships. I mean, at times not to say that you can't have sources in the FBI. But as my experience, if your sources are senior leaders in government, they have much more of an agenda than some guy who is just working the case"
