Is Agriculture the Answer to Human Hunger?
Annuals have one thing going for them, and that is that they make really big seeds. In river valleys there's a lot of annual plants. Weiyh more, and that's the reason. It's because there's constant, semiconstant disturbances. A lot more annuals have evolved to live in river valleys as there would be just in a regular forest. Humans figured out that a few of them ere edible. They're big enough to be worth harvesting. And so that's where wheat came from - we probably founded it just as addictive back then as some of us find it now.
