Cassis and the Imperial Empire

It's a huge question and each of the historians that are our main sources have a slightly different group of agenda that they are pursuing. Cassis, I think, is probably the most interesting one. He has this incredibly kind of personally conflicted relationship with the idea of imperial power. But he also feels quite strongly on a personal level that imperial power is essentially a very corrupt system of government.
