CHAPTER

The Long Journey to Ashur

Naya Ila'i and her daughter were sold for cash, presumably because it was hard to divide their labor 10 ways among the group of soldiers who owned them. They then made the long journey to Ashur, probably walking around 800 kilometers or 500 miles. The money was distributed to the baker, weaver, cook, shepherd, ironsmith, goldsmith, and whoever else wasn't named. Perhaps they died shortly afterward, worn out by their experiences in the long journey. Or perhaps they survived, maybe for long enough to see the city of Ashur itself fall victim to what it had for so long,. We'll come back to that.
