The Importance of Transportation in Philosophy

David Frum: I was thinking about how Helen and your work you've written about the idea of transportation where fiction can transport you to another world. It's the idea then that philosophical thought experiments, just by their very nature, cannot have as much detail about the world they are creating than a science fiction novel. He says there is perhaps less of an engagement of the actual emotions in a learning experience in philosophy than there might be with science fiction. "I think that great science fiction indeed can transport us emotionally to different worlds," he adds.
