How I Found a Way to Make Money in Taxi Cabs
Uber was founded in 2004, three years before the iPhone launched. Founder Travis Kalanick says he wanted to make a market for his trading software on taxi cab routes. Taxi companies were wary of using Uber because they thought it would cut into their business and blocked him from hiring private drivers. "It doesn't mean that it would have been a successful business," said Kalanick.
