If we talk about hurt and help as the criterion for good, good government, the problem is that just being in a society hurts people. And that means that, to go back to the utilitarian point, that we we got a serious problem there. So what we have to do is raise to a higher level of thinking about this and just say, what kind of society do we want? Do we want a society in which people are treated like bad or sad children, on the one hand?
