At all stages of energy generation, I always think of them as dimmer switches. At any point, our body is using pretty much all available energy sources just to varying degrees. Zone one basically represents the point up to a level of effort where we are burning almost exclusively fatty acids and we are utilizing nearly zero anaerobic processes. The lactate system is barely being used. By far and away, we're talking 95%.
