Emily Dickinson wrote more than 1,789 poems. She kept her manuscripts under lock and key in her bedroom drawer as if she were writing secret messages to a foreign country. The compulsion to create must have felt like lava teeming under the surface of a volcano,. To deny the world the chance to share in those treasures would be a travesty. Emily knew she was not meant for her time. Her birthright was the 20th century.
