John Sutter: It was impossible for a newspaper to customize the offering based on your personal preferences. He says that's very different with Facebook, which already is customizing what they're showing you. The journalist criticizing Facebook work for institutions that 20 years into the internet still have the same front page for everybody., he says. "They've packaged that in a one size fits all container as if they were printing a daily newspaper"
This episode surprised us; through a discussion of who is at fault in the latest series of new vs old-world spats, we realized that not only has the Internet fundamentally changed winners-and-losers, but also the very nature of economic competition and the type of regulation that is required.
