The idea that data is people is something that has been kind of like discussed some time before. If you don't think about these things early enough, then when you realize that there is a problem, it's typically too late. She wrapped up with saying questions to keep at the top of your mind are, what are the potential harms or negative impacts of the research? Or can I do to mitigate these potential harms? Is there a benefit to the research and who does it benefit? And she gave lots of concrete examples of what can go wrong when you assume the easy, simple thing.

Finally, this year we managed to record another classic episode from the IEEE VIS Conference (we recorded a total of 10 with this one!) We have Data Stories’ friend Prof. Tamara Munzner with us to talk about the conference and to highlight a few things she picked from the many events that happened over this week-long event.
