The Requiem by Brahms
Brahms chose secular texts to make the requiem more universal in spirit. Removing violins creates a murky and dark texture. The long flowing line gives us the feeling that we are finding our way through the haze to our goal. For the first two entries of the choir, brahms makes the heart stopping decision to cease all motion.
