Derrida and the Donkey
I think we can assume that donkeys can experience joy, pain and despair. They are human terms but I think those emotions we can absolutely believe that the donkey is a sentient being can experience. Derrida would agree with you. If we are trying to think about rationality then we can't possibly know. And therefore that says something interesting about how we know things and what are the limits of what we can do. It is really true that we want a cat anadonky in this experiment.
