The breadth of coverage that's in our leading newspapers now is vastly more sophisticated and broader ranging than when I was a kid. There have been a number of warning signs on political coverage the most notable would have been the obsession with Hillary Clinton's emails in 2016 which not only was there no reckoning with that but Dean Bekay the Times's editor in those days sort of ridiculed and poo-pooed any criticism of it. The proliferation of outlets and voices in the media also opened up possibilities that weren't there before. Media is probably going to exploit that one way or the other.
