The Importance of High-Flow Nasal Cannula in the Treatment of Hypoxic Patients
High flow nasal cannula can deliver a higher FiO2 because you can truly get up to 100%, which you can't really do even with a non-rebreather or nasal prongs. The hypoxic patient is the slam dunk indication here. I'm also seeing it used a lot more for pre-intubation oxygenation, especially in the person where maybe you're doing a delayed sequence rather than doing that with the BIPAP mask. It's just great for the people who for whatever reason can't tolerate that tight face mask for BIPAP.
