The Power of Method Selection for Retention
The Bjork's theory of interleaving is that it forces students to reboot. They're not just working through problems on autopilot, they have to access a different part of long term memory. So I really like that the focus of method selection makes students focus on the differences between problems as well as the similarities. But it is something I'm still not convinced by. This idea of bridging. When Mark first spoke about this, when I first heard him speak about this at Blackpool, my immediate thought is this the same as productive failure.
