Stephen Berenst's Death
Stephen Berenst was convicted of the first degree murder of Déline Hempel. He was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years. On April 9, 2005, a correctional officer found Berenst hanging in his cell. The jury deliberated for over an hour and returned with a verdict that Berenst died by suicide.
