The Project Pope by Clifford Simic

Clifford Simic wrote a lot of stories about robots and religion. And the oh yeah Catholicism makes it throughout the galaxy but only because robots take it over. It made me think of cloud atlas. Just the sort of I mean cloud atlas nests the stories so that you begin and end with the first story. The idea that so that structure isn't isn't preserve but the little hints of threads and the different time areas.
