Vannevar Bush wrote of associative indexing, the process of drawing connections between different records stored in a Memex. He predicted that wholly new forms of encyclopedias will appear ready made for a mesh of associative trails running through them and they're amplified. We seem to be worse often before, but we can enormously extend the record, yet even in its present bulk we can hardly consult it," he says.
