The ECB's Job Is Nearly Done
Inflation has peaked, but we economists tend to think about inflation. If it's rising at 5% core inflation or even headline inflation, that means that prices are rising 5% every single year. That's still too high. I wouldn't be surprised if the disinflationary trend carries on a little bit longer and overshoots the target. There's not going to be that smooth landing to 2%. The other trend that is important to monitor is the structural trend. We're in a world where we are seeing increased deficiencies on the supply side,. demographics and aging population.
