The Chiang Rebellions
The tiang were an ethic minority who lived in the mountainous regions of the tibetan plateau. They built strong houses from granite field stones and tall, narrow stone watch towers to defend from attack. The first chiang rebellions were put down easily by the empire. But they were only the first in a long line of revolts. There would be a thorn in the side of imperial china for the rest of the han dynasty. As this letter from one general to the emperor shows: If i have five thousand cavalry and ten thousand foot soldiers with three thousand carts for baggage, I can break these people and settle them.
