Nomadism and Pastoralism
Pastoralists are effectively traders in a way too, because even though theoretically it's possible for a nomad to sustain themselves just off of the animal byproducts of their herds, in reality it's not. So access to markets has been vital to nomads throughout history as places where they can bring their products to sell and to trade with craftspeople and agriculturalists. In future episodes I'll talk about examples of people who have become nomadic much more recently, like in the past 300 to 500 years.
