The History of the Bazar Gate Street

The house of Navroji Jamseitji stood next to the house of Kawasji Patel. The most prominent Hindu home in that area was that of Moti Chand, who lived in the Bazar Gate street. Opposite to Moti Chand's house was the home of the banker Atmaram Bukhan. These houses carried out money lending and Hundi transactions up to the mid-1860s. They were as yet vulnerable to southern catastrophes like fire or a financial catastrophe like the crash of 1864.
