Next up in the hype cycle, people start to lose confidence in a technology. This can be because the tech is taking longer than people want for it to mature and become a capable tech. If it's still in the maturation process and has not fully been developed, the technology itself could just lose enough support that there's no one left to develop it. And technology itself can die at this stage.
