What Happened to the Naval Bases?

There were literally thousands of soldiers stationed there. They built roads, they built power plants, they built hospitals. There's still on the island loads of quancet huts that they put up. One of the soldiers was james missioner, who would go on to write tales of the south pacific,. upon which the musical south pacific was based. The military had one primary goal, which was bringing the soldiers back home. Soa bringing the boys home was much more important. And some sense that the gear was much less important.
