The Black Ghetto Culture of the American South

Sowell's main argument in black rednecks and white liberals is that the current day black ghetto culture is actually a remnant of the white, redneck, and so-called cracker culture of the American South. This cracker culture was brought to the South by immigrants from very particular regions of England, Ireland, and Wales which had been known for centuries to exhibit these cultural traits. More is involved here than a mere parallel between blacks and southern whites. What is involved is a common subculture that has encompassed everything from ways of talking to attitudes toward education, violence, and sex.
