The Importance of Identity Politics
My family, the godfather is Thanksgiving viewing for us. So I was not raised to see that as an insult to Italian Americans. A student attending commented afterwards that she didn't like the godfather movies because they glorified the mob. They dress well, it's a beautiful film. But things do not end well. And I think the movies show that what the characters end up sacrificing to get what they have and have only fleetingly isn't worth what they do.
